Description

A refreshing and sweet homemade strawberry sweet tea combining brewed black tea with a homemade strawberry syrup, perfect for serving over ice on a hot day.

Ingredients

Scale

Tea

  • 2 cups water
  • 8 black tea bags
  • 4 cups water
  • 1 tsp baking soda

Strawberry Syrup

  • 2 cups water
  • 4 cups strawberries, chopped
  • 1½ cups granulated sugar

Instructions

  1. Boil Water and Brew Tea: Bring 2 cups of water to a boil in a medium saucepan. Once boiling, remove from heat and add the tea bags. Steep for 5 minutes to extract flavor.
  2. Remove Tea Bags: Remove the tea bags from the water, squeezing any excess tea out with a pair of tongs to maximize flavor.
  3. Combine Tea and Water: Transfer the brewed tea into a large pitcher along with 4 additional cups of water and 1 teaspoon of baking soda, stirring gently.
  4. Prepare Strawberry Syrup: Using the same saucepan, add the remaining 2 cups of water, chopped strawberries, and granulated sugar. Bring to a low simmer and cook for 20 minutes to create a rich syrup.
  5. Cool and Strain Syrup: Remove the strawberry mixture from heat and allow it to cool. Then strain the syrup through a fine mesh sieve into a small cup or pitcher, pressing to extract all the juice.
  6. Mix Syrup with Tea: Pour the strawberry syrup into the large pitcher with the brewed tea mixture and stir well to combine.
  7. Serve: Pour the strawberry sweet tea over ice and serve chilled for a refreshing drink.

Notes

  • Store strawberry sweet tea covered in the refrigerator for up to 1 week to maintain freshness.
  • For a stronger tea flavor, steep the tea bags a few minutes longer, but avoid bitterness.
  • You can adjust the sugar amount in the strawberry syrup according to your preferred sweetness level.
  • Using fresh, ripe strawberries will yield the best natural sweetness and flavor.
  • Baking soda is added to reduce acidity and improve flavor balance in the tea.
